Product Text Field doesn’t appear in Cart

I have a text field for Special Instructions on my product page. After entering some text and adding the product to my cart, the field does not appear in the cart. This was working right up until a couple weeks ago, so I don’t know if an update occurred that broke it. Working with version 1.3.5.
I have seen this same problem in numerous other submitted tickets, but no follow up solutions.
If no solution exists, would it be possible to roll by my version back to one before the problem cropped up?
