    Hello+

I have attempted to set up the Email Notification for the “‘Product’ New Comment” option. The Test Email was sent successfully, and I did receive that. However, when a real comment is submitted for any of the products found on the website this Email Notification is not coming through to the appropriate email addresses. (Only the original WordPress Default New Comment Email comes through.) I’m not sure what I’ve done incorrectly… Please advise.

    Thanks, +ES

    Hi @evelynmsdesigngraphicscom,
    Thanks for your message.

Have you followed the steps on this page to set-up comments correctly?
Do you have any other comment plugins installed that may conflict with how comments should be operating?

    Hello+

Thank you for the response and link to instructions. Yes, I did set the email up correctly as far as I can tell… I used the offered option called – ‘Product’ New Comment. I do not “see” specific instructions for that offered option in the provided link. However, I followed the ones for – New Comment/Comment Awaiting Moderation – as that seemed closest to the offered option I am using.

I am not using any other comment plugins on this site.

I have this email set to go to the 3 Shop Managers (which I am one of) and they do not go; however, the test email does get sent to me and I do receive it in my email in-box as expected.

    Please advise…Thanks!

    Hi @evelynmsdesigngraphicscom,
    Thanks for the info.

Are you able to set-up and test this with a default comment on a post (as opposed to one for a custom post type) and let me know if it works for you?

    Hello+

Thank you for the quick reply… I am not using the “New Comment/Comment Awaiting Moderation” option. I am using the “Product New Comment” option – but there are not any instructions for that option in the link/page you provided. So, there is no “comment on a post” – there IS comments on Products coming through multiple times a day….

I am getting the WordPress default New Comment on a Product emails; however, I am not the one that needs to get those emails… This is why I am using your plugin.

Yes, when I click “send me a test email” it states that it was sent and I do get that in my email inbox as expected. However, the New Product Comment emails are not being sent to any Shop Manager Users.

    What do you suggest?

    Thanks!

    Hi @evelynmsdesigngraphicscom,
I appreciate that however, testing the default comment notification by commenting on a post will let us know if it’s an issue with the plugin you’re using to add Products to your site or an issue with BNFW.

It’s also worth noting that the test email is just to provide help with formatting – it’s not a guarantee that the notification will work. A little detail on this is available via the help ‘?’ which is next to the ‘Send Me a Test Email’ button.

    Hello+

Thank you for the quick response, advice, and clarifications. I do understand that the “Send Me a Test Email” button is for formatting purposes… I was simply trying to provide as much information as possible on this. My apologies if that was not helpful.

This website is using the default WP comment notification for blog post comments. Which is also emailing me about those post comments. Since the 1 blog post is from 2016 (prior to when I took over this website for my client), I did not realize that it was still ‘accepting’ comments. I have changed that now.

I did create a test comment on that post prior to closing comments for it. I see that comment on the back-end, but that comment has not come through on my email. However, there are other comments from that post that came through to my email. The most recent one on that is timestamped “2018/03/14 at 9:43am” and I made my post comment on “2018/03/14 at 9:52am”… I got the 9:43am one, but not the 9:52am one (maybe because I was logged in when I made that test comment?)…

I have created a BNFW “New Comment/Comment Awaiting Moderation” for these post comments now….However, I’m not sure that has anything to do with the “Product New Comment” email not working…

The site does have the JetPack Plugin on it, but that is deactivated. Could that cause issues here, even though it is deactivated? What are your thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hi @evelynmsdesigngraphicscom,
    Thanks.

Please try this for the default post comments. If this works, we’ll move onto troubleshooting comments for your custom post type afterwards.

    1. Make sure there is a notification set-up and activated for ‘New Comment / Awaiting Moderation’.
    2. Create a comment as a guest user (i.e. not a logged in user) on a regular post.
    3. See if you receive the notification.
    4. If you do, great, if not, something else is conflicting with comment notifications.
    5. If it does work, duplicate the above 3 steps but for your custom post type and see if it works. If it doesn’t, let me know.

Let me know how you get on.

    Hello+

Thank you for the advice and steps to take. I did try them and was waiting to see if that solved the issue…thus my silence for so long. I have verified that the “Product New Comment” email I created in BNFW IS working now – yay!

However, I am still getting the original WordPress Comment emails for those same comments that the BNFW is sending emails about and I thought that would stop the WP emails from being sent. Please advise.

    Thank you.

    Hi @evelynmsdesigngraphicscom,
    No probs.

If you’re sure you’ve set-up comments correctly as per my first reply in this thread then the only suggestion I have is to try a different plugin to add this custom post type or to add it in code instead and see if that fixes it. I’m fairly sure this is a plugin or theme conflict.

    Hi+

Thank you for the quick reply. We have made such good progress on this, I just hate to give up and start over with another plugin! Plus your plugin really is easy to use and I have successfully used it without issues on other websites! However, I do understand that this is free tech support and you are a busy person… Please mark this as “closed”.

    Hi @evelynmsdesigngraphicscom,
No problem. I’m happy to continue to help to see if we can resolve this.

I meant that you may need to try another plugin that adds the custom post type to your website, not an alternative necessarily to BNFW.
    Is this possible?

    Hi+

Wonderful to have you still on-board with this! ??

The BNFW custom notifications are now working on this website as expected (just like they do on the other websites that I use this plugin with)… It is just that I am still receiving the default WP notifications for the same items that the BNFW notifications are supposed to replace. I thought that the BNFW ones would stop the WP ones from being sent (as that seems to be what is happening on the other sites) but I still get the WP ones on this site. I was wondering if I accidentally missed a checkbox or something that “stops” the WP default emails? Please advise.

    Thanks!

    Hi @evelynmsdesigngraphicscom,
Providing that you’ve followed the instructions on how to set-up the default comment notifications within the WP Admin > Settings from my first message, then I think it’s a theme or plugin conflict as it should work as per your other sites.

You can troubleshoot plugin or theme conflicts using this support document: https://betternotificationsforwp.com/how-can-i-receive-the-best-support/

    Hello+

I found a very useful plugin called, Health Check, by “The www.remarpro.com community” and used it to test this site on a default WP theme.

I have been able to determine that the paid theme may be the reason the BNFW does not work exactly as expected on this install.

Since everyone is getting the comment notification emails now – thanks to this BNFW plugin. I will stop worrying about the default WP comment notification emails coming through too (and not being stopped by BNFW).

Thank you for guiding me through this process. Please consider this “resolved”.
