I saw in the documentation that under the Product Page tab there should be a diagram where I can move around the various elements of the page. I see the list of basic elements and custom fields, but no diagram. This is on Chrome Version 54.0.2840.98 (64-bit).

    Thank you!

  • Hi Kim,

Just to make sure: you’re saying that in the “Product Page” tab page, you’re not seeing anything below the Basic Elements / Custom Fields section?

If so, I just had a few questions:

    1) Do you see “Save Layout” and “Restore Default” buttons below “Custom Fields”?

1b) If so, does anything happen when you click them?

    2) If not, is there a chance you might have a browser plugin that might be interfering with our Custom page layout editor (e.g. an Adblock..etc)? If you have browser plugins, does anything happen when you disable them?

    3) If you log into your WordPress admin on any other browsers (such as Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer), do you see the Custom page editor in the “Product Page” tab?

Thanks, that helped! Now I need to figure out how to get the added tags to show up.

Are you talking about displaying a product’s tags on the product page? If so, then, if you go back to the “Product Page” area in the admin, you’ll see that one of the items in the “Basic Elements” list is “Tags”. Just add this item to your layout.

    related issue:
i purchased the Ultimate Product Catalog Premium Upgrade about a month ago. I set my product page grid layout (custom-regular) as i wanted. All was good. Now I notice that the plugin seems to update itself automatically each time i enter the plugin admin area (i can see via FTP that all files in the directory are updated) and my custom product template grid has been lost. i try to recreate it, but the save layout button does not work!!! i see no reaction in the browser url bar that something is happening and in fact if i refresh the page all my changes are lost!!

what is going on please? I would like to go live with my site, but i have been wrestling with this silly product page template for over a week now and it refuses to save! it will happily go back to the default but will not save my new grid!!
i turned off a few other plugins as you suggested above but it did not help.

another unrelated q: can a product be listed in 2 or more categories and if so, how do i set that up?

    thanks in advance!

    Hi Judy,

Products can only be listed in one category and one sub-category. If you would like the ability to assign products to multiple categories, I would suggest creating a new checkbox type custom field (you can even name it “Categories” if you want) and assigning your products to the appropriate values accordingly.

When you save your custom layout, unfortunately there is currently no visual indication that it has saved. The page does not reload and nothing changes in URL bar. To make sure it’s saved, what you can do is go to another area in your WordPress admin (e.g. Pages) and then come back to the custom product page builder. Then you’ll see if it has actually saved or not.

One of the things that might be happening for you is that, if you click “Restore Default” then it will actually add a command to the URL to initiate the restore. However, if you then click refresh, it will automatically restore the default again, even if you’ve made changes and saved, because it is still in the URL. This is why we suggest to navigate away from the builder and then back after restoring, just to make sure you don’t accidentally do this.

If, after doing this, you find that the page layout does seem to be saving (i.e the elements you added are still there when you go back to the layout builder), but that elements are getting automatically rearranged, this is because we have been experiencing some issues with the layout editor and certain elements resizing and jumping under others when they’re saved. We have found that if you insert a “Blank” element just to the right of a specific element, it will prevent it from incorrectly resizing or moving.

For example, if you put together the layout that you want, will the editor let you add in another “Blank” element to right of everything? If so, doing this may help to keep everything else in order when the layout is saved.

Alternatively, because of some of the inconsistencies of the custom layout, we have created a “Tabbed Product Page” layout. It includes all custom fields, you can add and remove tabs and choose what elements are shown, and it is fully responsive, meaning it will display correctly on all devices. This layout can be selected in the “Premium” area of the “Options” tab.
