I understand you’re having an issue with your images not displaying as expected. I was able to check your store and could notice that the image seems not to display correctly.

Furthermore, I’d like to understand, were the images showing correctly before this issue started? If they were, do you remember making any changes before the issue started, such as updating or installing plugin(s)?

Just to verify, are you able to see the product featured image in the backend when editing each product? Could you also confirm if all the images are still available in the media folder?

I cannot see the images in the product editor screen in the admin. The images where showing as expected until the issue. We are unsure of what the issue is.

The merchant is reporting the images to be deleted. This merchant bought this company & website in 2022,. He is reporting the missing images to be from before the purchase of the website. Before January 2022.

There has been no known updates to have triggered these missing images that we are aware of/remember.. I say this because we are not sure when it started.

The website was using lightspeed cache, with image optimization, I have deactivated that plugin with the thought that it may be the culprit.

I may have a backup of the uploads folder from July 2024. If I have the actual images from before Jan 2022, then I could re-import the images and update the products with their corresponding images based on the new imported images.

But it does not explain why it has happened. This is not the first time either. I can get more info on that tomorrow. I was not working on this website when it happened the first time.

Interesting turn of events. I just went into the uploads folder and there are images back to 2015, but they are not registered in the media library. The media library only goes back to Jan 2022.

I will follow the steps in the conflict testing and report back.

I did a deep dive in the database last night. We have several older staging databases still installed in the system. I tracked one image between production and staging to see what was missing.

There are no records in posts and postmeta.

There are several image files in the correct folder, but the main image is not there.

Some how the image file has been deleted and the database does not have posts and postmeta. The postmeta records for the product does not have a meta_key for _thumbnail_id

It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of troubleshooting already, and I appreciate you taking those steps. Since the images are missing from both the media library and posts, and given that the database lacks records, it’s possible they were removed or corrupted somehow. Restoring from a backup could indeed bring back the images, but it’s true that it won’t pinpoint the cause of their removal.

Also since the issue seems to persist from before the website changed ownership, it’s worth considering whether it may be linked to previous ownership changes or maintenance.

You can also try to regenerate shop thumbnails by going to WooCommerce → System → Tools to see if it helps. Make sure to secure a backup of your site before using the tools here.

Thank you for the reply. The merchant has decided to manually re-add the images. Can you recommend a good way to track the eents on the website in case this happens again we have a better way of tracking down the culprit?
