Product gallery images do not show after upgrade

  • I have upgraded an old site using WordPress 3.5.1 / WooCommerce 1.6.6 to WordPress 4.7.2 / WooCommerce 2.6.14.

    Gallery images on product single page have stopped appearing. Only featured image is showing.

    When I open the product page in the dashboard the images are in the gallery, and when I re-save the product, they start appearing in the front end too.

    Do I have to re-save hundreds of products?

    Is this expected behaviour?

  • There were quite a few changed between WooCommerce 1.6.6 and 2.6.14, as well as between WordPress 3.5.1 and 4.7.2.

    Did you notice if there was an “Updating WooCommerce Database” notice in your dashboard? If there is, make sure the data update happens.

    To rule out an issue with your theme, try switching to a default theme and see if images are still missing.

    To save hundreds of posts at the same time, you can go into Batch Edit Mode in the Product List, and update something like a tag for all the products. This might trigger the update that fixes the gallery metadata.

    Thanks for the reply. Yes, this happens with the default theme too. There was no message to update the database.

    And unfortunately, bulk edit does not help. I guess I would have to re-save manually.

    Do you have a cache plugin? Delete all cached items. Also, just something to try:
    Dashboard > WooCommerce > System Status > Tools, and delete transients – two buttons.
