    Hi,

Product sub-categories got mixed randomly. They are hundreds and ‘drag and drop’ is not an option. Also, every newly added sub-category goes 1st in the list (shop page) instead of sorted alphabetically.
    1. How could the default automatic alphabetical sorting of product categories be restored?
    2. How to get each newly added sub-category in its place on the list (sorted by ‘title’)?

I’ve checked all the related topics here as well as plugins and nothing helped.:((
    Thank you!

    Hey there!

Thanks for explaining – to confirm, is the problem happening on the front-end of your site, or the back-end in wp-admin?

Could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.
Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    Hi,
It’s at the backend. There is no option of WooCommerce to sort alphabetically.
I did sort all categories’ subcategories for 1.5 hours by the Plugin “Custom Taxonomy Order”, which did mix them initially before that. However how could categories easily be sorted in WooCommerce with fewer clicks?

For the system report. I can send it over an email, but here I am worried that hackers would appreciate such info…

    Thanks for the additional information!

Let’s look at this without an additional plugin – otherwise, we don’t know if the behavior is coming from WooCommerce or that plugin.

To confirm, it’s these categories that you’d like to sort – and so far, you’ve sorted them using the drag and drop method?

As long as everything is up to date, there isn’t any interesting information in there. If you want a bit more privacy, you can remove the first few lines where the site’s URL is mentioned.

    Hi,

I didn’t use drag and drop – that is too time consuming for those hundreds of categories. I sorted it with the plugin. However every newly added category goes 1st, and not on its place. Is it supposed to do so?

I can send the report or give acces to your automattic email. (Just write to me through the contact form of deflectors.eu and will share to you all the info).

    Best regards,
    Emil

    Thanks for clarifying further!

By default, WooCommerce adds a new category to the top of the list:

    ![Add to top](https://cld.wthms.co/e0aBb0+)
    Full size: https://cld.wthms.co/e0aBb0

The only option that WooCommerce offers for adjusting the order of the categories is the drag-and-drop option that you’ve already found. Any extra functionality would be coming from the plugin Custom Taxonomy Order.

I hope that clears things up for you!

Thank you, Hannah! I’ve got it.
I hope for WooCommerce to get some easy alphabetical sorting or default such for each newly addded category. We, users, often add them with new products through a .csv file that contains also the new category for a new product.

I understand – that’s a lot of dragging and dropping!

You can create an enhancement request for that here:
