How do I enable Product Categories tree in the Shop page?
It’s not showing now. I have created couple of categories and two subcategories under one of those, and have products in each subcategory. But all I see is products on the main page – no categories tree.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Are you using Woocommerce?

    If so go to:

    Woocommerce – > Settings – > – > Products (Tab)

Look for ‘Shop Page Display’ and change to ‘Show Subcategories’.

Now when you go to the ‘Shop’ page you should see your list of categories rather than a list of products.

    I hope that helps!

Thanks for the reply! I tried that, but subcategories are displayed in blocks, just like products, instead of a tree. And when I click them it says page not found. But if I click on a product – it shows the product page.

Can you post a link to your site so I can see exactly what you mean?

Do I have to create pages for each category and subcategory?
Sorry, but it’s my first try with WC, and shops in general.

You don’t have to create pages for each category and subcategory.

    If you go to:

    Appearance –> Menu

You can add links to categories and subcategories.

subcategories are displayed in blocks, just like products, instead of a tree

If you want to display you categories in a tree, like this Screenshot then you could use the ‘WooCommerce Product Categories’ widget.

Regarding your ‘page not found’ issue – perhaps you could post to the ‘Plugins and Hacks’ forums ?

    I hope that helps.

    Thanks again for your reply.

fruitful’s sample shop ( https://themes.fruitfulcode.com/fruitful/shop/ ) has Product Categories tree on the right side — this is done with additional plugin? It’s just when I have more items on one page they are placed in such a way that there’s empty space remains on the right, like an empty column, as if there should be that Product Categories tree, but it just not there. That’s why I’m thinking the theme would automatically show it — it would not?

    flamey,

Product category for shop page it’s a default functionality. Parent and child product categories. At the moment it’s a default dummy-data.xml provided by WooCommerce

I’m sorry, but I’m still having problem with this (i didn’t work on this all this time)..
so, i did a fresh install, English ver of WP, installed and activated WC, changed permalink setting to human readable, installed and activated fruitful theme. imported WC dummy data. all settings are default. but the categories tree is still not showing up ??
    what am I missing?

    Ah, I got it.
I needed to make “WooCommerce Product Categories” Widget appear on Shop page. By default it is not. I’m new to all this stuff.
    Thanks!

Related Question? Assumption: Several “Product”->”Attributes” are set. It’s obviously possible to “Filter by” these “Product Categories.” Question? Is it possible to actually place an “Order” based on the selected “attributes” in WooCommerce?
