My product categories (parent and sub) are not displaying properly. I have gone through the process of deleting all products and categories as well as removing any third party themes. This only temporarily corrects the issue. Categories are intermittently not displaying in the menu, are showing up out of order or simply not recognizing parent category. I’ve also tried this with or without products assigned to a category. I’ve tried creating only simple products, only variable or a combination of the two. I have included a link with a detailed screenshot.

  • Was it working OK when you had a small number of categories and started going wrong with a larger number? A low setting for PHP max input vars can cause this sort of problem. Your setting can be found at WooCommerce > System Status. If its say 1000, increase it to say 3000. You can change the value in php.ini or you may need to ask your host to do it. I can’t say that that is the problem.

I had my server change the setting from 1000 to 3000. Also updated to PHP Version 5.5.30. The menu is still out of order and some items are still not displaying correctly. Do you think I should try to delete and start fresh and then see if the problem repeats itself?

Before that I should try the debug procedure. Deactivate all other plugins and switch to the default theme. If the problem resolves you may have software conflict. Reactivate one-by-one to try to identify the element that is conflicting.

I deactivated all plugins and switched to a default theme. The problem did not resolve. Any other suggestions before I reactivate the plugins?

(Thank you so much for your help. It’s greatly appreciated!!)

A long shot but it doesn’t take long – try running:
    /wp-admin/maint/repair.php
    and follow the on-screen instructions.

I don’t think reactivating the plugins is the way to go. Keep it simple until its fixed. I should make a subdirectory for a second install using fresh downloads and a new database. You can export your content from your current site and import it into the new one. If the new site works, you’ll know that your current install is corrupted or incomplete somehow. Your choice then is to either rebuild your site in the root, or to complete the subdirectory install and point your domain to it when its finished.

I had to pay to have the problem resolved. It was a line of code within WooCommerce itself causing the issue. Now that it’s fixed everything is working fine. Thank you for your help!

hlgfabrics-> What code was wrong? I am having the same issue, could you help!?

I had a developer fix it for me. If you would like to contact me directly I would be happy to let you talk to him. I forgot exactly what it was but I do remember it was a programming error on the theme/woo side. Contact me though hlcfabrics.com
