• Love this plugin, the only thing I’ve noticed is if you have a product in multiple categories the category link displayed is for one of the categories but not the one you found the product in. For example, if I have a shirt in 2 categories named long sleeve and short sleeve and I get to that shirt from the short sleeve category page, it will display the long sleeve category in the breadcrumb trail every time. Is there a way to set it so the breadcrumb knows which category page you came from rather defaulting to one of the pages? I thought this “Allow the refereing page to influence the taxonomy selected for the hierarchy” was the option but when clicked it doesn’t fix it.

The “Allow the refereing page to influence the taxonomy selected for the hierarchy” setting is only used for switching between taxonomies, not between taxonomy terms. Switching between terms within the same taxonomy, if made available, will likely show up in an extension plugin to Breadcrumb NavXT.

Thank you for clarifying what that setting does. I still have the issue where a product is within multiple categories but the breadcrumb trail does not accurately display from which category you came from when you are on the product page. I always defaults to one category rather than the actual category you came from, is there a way to fix that?

That behavior is by design. Breadcrumb NavXT generates locational breadcrumb trails. It subscribes to the idea that every resource has only one true location, and that is what it tries to display. It does not display breadcrumb trails based on the exact path a visitor traveled to a location. Such functionality, if implemented, would be part of an extension plugin to Breadcrumb NavXT. It should be possible to implement. In a nutshell, you need to write a filter for the bcn_pick_post_term hook, and change the returned term based on how the user got to the resource.
