Okay…we know this is an issue with the latest release of Woocommerce at the time and date of this post. But Woocommerce don’t like us replying to someone else with the same problem and insist we open individual reports. Okay, no problem.

Since version 8.2.0 upgrade, a problem has appeared when adding terms to a product attribute in a product listing.

Instead of presenting a list of the attribute terms to choose from, the attribute field becomes populated with every attribute term of the attribute. I’d post an image but the original thread I replied to has already done so and so there’s no point duplicating the example. Whether it’s 5 attribute terms or 50, they all get populated and then you have the pain of deleting them one-by-one.

No doubt this will be a temporary bug.

    Hi @thedrumdoctor

    Thank you for reporting this!

One of the new WooCommerce 8.2 features was to automatically select all attribute terms when adding a new global attribute to a product. However, in sites with a large amount of attribute terms, this feature seems to cause some performance issues.

This is being looked into. You may follow updates on this issue via: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/40712

    Thanks!

I don’t really want to sound rude, but who comes up with these “ideas”??? Certanly not a store owner

Because is not only about the obvious performance & crash hit. It triples the work needed to add attributes

This kind of breaking changes in UX, has to come from end users. Not from developers

@nigeljamesstevenson please make it go away! I have circa 200 attribute terms in one of my attributes named ‘Model’ – because there are so many model names of products across manufacturers.

Now imagine having to delete 199 attribute terms just to get to the term you want. This is not a time-saving feature! I can’t see why it was ever considered a useful change.

Same issue here. With several attributes with 100’s of terms, we simply can’t delete all of them, except for one. Whole day of production, lost. Not happy. Contemplating downgrading back to v8.1.1

I think Woocommerce devs need to do a bit of research into how products use attributes and populate them with terms. ‘One-size-fits-all’ does not apply in retail. To learn this is a supposed ‘improvement’ now manifesting itself as a bug surely must send a message to rethink?

Now I have to consider wasting more time prepping for a rollback.

Also having same issue and it’s being looked at here: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/issues/40712

One thing I will say, you can click “select none” button to delete them all and re-add the ones you want. An annoying and unnecessary inconvenience and does nothing to solve crashes due to too many attributes consuming memory, but something you can do in the mean time until it’s resolved.

@stestory Yes indeed, why do a job once when you can do it twice!!!!

PLEASE make this optional. I have an online bookstore and my authors attribute has over 4,000 options. I can’t add new products without adding authors and it crashes my site each time. This is NOT user friendly and forcing this upon us was not a good move.

EDIT: I see the fix has been made and I’ve run the update. Thank you for attending to this swiftly.

    Will this be auto-patched soon?
