`Hello,

I have a question about product variants and the properties of product variants.

On product level all important properties of products can already be defined. Optionally, the created properties can also be used to select variants.

Now my actual question:
How can product properties be defined on variant level, but they should not be used for variant selection.

An example:
A product has the value “Thickness” as variant selection(dropdown field).
For each variant, it must now be possible to define the property “Shatterproof” (Yes or No).
(The example is not ideal and could also be mapped via the variant. But it simplifies a more complex issue)

So the visitor gets the value for “Shatterproof” depending on the variant, without being able to filter by this property.
In the backend, it would be sufficient to have a corresponding input field for the variants.

Am I misunderstanding a logic of WooCommerce here? Is there maybe even already and I’m just missing something here?

Hi,

If I understood correctly, you would like to implement conditional variations, i.e. a new variant will appear depending on the previous customer’s selection.

This is not included in WooCommerce Core, but with the help of extensions this is possible.

The Composite Products extension is an alternative to achieve that model.

It includes conditional logic and might help display options based on a customer’s previous choice.

Thank you for your answer. The proposed plugin looks interesting. However, we need the data for another case. Therefore, the plugin will unfortunately not help us here.
Sorry.

I have seen that the variants of a product are stored as post type ‘product_variation’ and as child of the product post in the database.
What I need is a custom field value that I can attach to the product_variation level.

I could of course just write this into the database, but I need a way to maintain this in the backend.
