• I have problems when i try to upload images to my wordpress site.
I tried using the browser method, instead of the flash method.

The problem is that I can see the uploaded file in the image gallery, but the thumbnail is just the ? and no picture. When I add the image to a page it is the same that i see. I tried both web optimized jpg and png files with no result, it is the same every time. I tried to use safari and firefox browsers, but it doesn′t work.

Have any one tried this problem, and if you have please help me out.

It sounds like the thumbnail isn’t getting generated.

Can you check the server and see if your thumbnails are there (they would be named something like imagename-100×100.jpg). If not, you may be missing the image libraries on your server.

I don’t know why that’s not on the requirements page…

    Hi Ipstenu

Thanks for your reply, the thumbnails are on the server.

The thing is that you can see that it uploads the file, but then no thumbnail picture or large image in WP.

    Uprock1972,

I have had the same problem. In my case it was caused of a too large picture (even though not veeery large). Try to resize the picture before uploading it.

I dont know if this will solve the problem but could be worth a try.

    Hi Jon

    Thanks for your reply,

I tried to upload a picture that was 75 x 100 pixels and only 8 kb, but it still not works.

I can′t figure out what the bug is, it seems like I do it right.

    what version are you using?

the thumbnails are on the server.

The thing is that you can see that it uploads the file, but then no thumbnail picture or large image in WP.

So if you directly navigated to the file, you can see both the thumbnail and the full size image?

Double check your folder permissions, though this is pretty wild. The only time I’ve see than was when I (heh) moved all my uploads around. Don’t do that. It was v. dumb of me.

I use the new version 2.8.4

I have not moved any files around, so I don′t think it is the permissions.
I moved my pictures to my desktop and then I use the browser upload and navigate to my desktop, where when I select the file I can see the image. After the file are uploaded to the server, then I can see the thumbnail as a square with a blue ? in the middle, and it is the same I see if I click the thumbnail on the server to see the big image.
I use OS X but should not be the problem.

Can you toss up a link to the thumbnails and the full size images on the server?

It sounds like permissions or .htaccess or something to do with your server not seeing those files as images.

Hi, I’m having the same problems as the original poster except that the images don’t even upload at all

Hi, I’ve had the same problems with uploading images:

    I have tried:
-altering the image size to within the specified size restrictions
-changing the file permission from 644 to 666
-loading the files using the flash uploader and the browser uploader
    -uploading from different web browsers

The answer must be something simple but what it is I don’t know. Much as I’d like to get this going having read through ‘WordPress for dummies’ I am on the verge on giving up on WordPress.

Any answers – I’d really appreciate it!

Have managed to resolve the problems with uploading images!

I found the images were being stored in the wp-content folder but not in any subfolder. I created a subfolder (named artwork) for them and in WP settings; miscellaneous; uploading files; store uploads in this folder -changed it from wp-content to wp-content/artwork.

Now the images appear when I upload!

uprock1972, Hello catfood and anyone else with similar problems – see if this works for you.
