I have just installed the blog I originally created on wordpress.com onto my own web space but have an issue now the sub-domain is set-up.

    Original blog location: https://thegameofgaming.wordpress.com
    New blog location: https://blog.metagames.co.uk

The new blog on the sub-domain worked totally fine once installed. I want anyone who visits the original blog (at thegameofgaming.wordpress.com) to be redirected to the same page at the new location because there are a lot of links to my blog articles from other sites.

To accomplish this, I set-up the CNAME for my domain (pointing at thegameofgaming.wordpress.com) and then added sub-domain mapping to my wordpress account. Once set-up, I changed the CNAME back to the original settings so that blog.metagames.co.uk would lead to my webspace and not to wordpress.

If I go to blog.metagames.co.uk, that address is displayed but I’m certain I’m actually looking at the thegameofgaming.wordpress.com site. Also, if I try to access the Dashboard for either, I am sent to the dashboard for thegameofgaming.wordpress.com.

It doesn’t make much difference what settings my DNS records are for blog.metagames.co.uk either. In fact, it all seems a bit backwwards – if the CNAME is set up (pointing at wordpress.com) the blog shows blog.metagames.co.uk in the address bar; if I remove the CNAME (turn it back into the A record which points at my web server) the blog shows thegameofgaming.wordpress.com in the address bar.

    1. How do I make blog.metagames.co.uk point at blog.metagames.co.uk?
    2. How do I make thegameofgaming.wordpress.com point at blog.metagames.co.uk?

Have I added sub-domain mapping to my account for the wrong reason? Is it only for having a sub-domain point at a blog on wordpress.com?

If the solution is to remove the domain mapping, is there a way for the original blog to redirect people to the new blog?

Thanks for any help you can give. I’m very confused.

    Thanks.

    James.

After hours of trying to get things to work, and after finally writing my description of the situation, it’s all working fine now. I’m no nearer knowing why it does work to why it didn’t but at least it’s working.
