Problems with pull-down menu when adding products

We have a Cart66 Lite install which has grown to 500 products.
Since products are added via a pull-down menu, sorted alphabetically, it gets tiresome scrolling for several minutes to find the specific product. Further, the cart often locks up when trying to pull up a listing of all products (e.g., to see what product number we left off on).
Is there a work-around, or plugin/extension, or a way to add product categories, or any kind of better approach to handling Cart66 — with lots of products???
(Note: Paying for Cart66 Pro or Cloud is not possible at this time. Woocommerce works well with lots of products, but there are a variety of issues preventing us from switching over.)
