Guest editors frequently re-enter existing locations. I don’t want duplicate locations displaying different sets of events, so this is something I try to fix.

One of my guests entered “Downtown Historic District”, which is an identical location to “Downtown Vallejo”. Even after clearing the autocomplete field and deletingthe “Historic” location and clearing my cache, I could not see the original “Downtown” location in the event drop-down list to select it, and only the later “Historic” version showed up. I’ve noticed before that selecting an autocomplete alone is enough to create a duplicate, and it can be tough to select the right location, but I’ve never seen the original completely disappear before. (Could be Chrome for Mac issue)

I finally forced the correct location by using Chrome developer tools to unhide the location ID field in the location selection, and entering the location ID, “14”. I run into location selection issues frequently enough that I’ll probably hack the plugin to make this a semi-permanent feature – so that I can select the location by ID instead of the location name.

Long story short – this is a feature request to show the location ID field in the Admin view of the event editor. — Thanks!

maybe you can try to use Events > Settings > General > General Options > Use dropdown for locations =Yes however did you mean admin-dashboard event/location listing ?

I need to be able to enter new locations – and I can’t do that if dropdown is selected, and yes I do mean the Admin dashboard, where you enter or choose the location while you are creating or editing an event.

    Thanks!

at the moment, once a location is entered, you need to search for it using the autocompleter and select that location, entering the same values will create a new location but if you want to avoid duplicate location then you need to do custom coding to make this work.
