Greetings. Since yesterday (and until now) I’ve been having the following problem that doesn’t seem to be much on WordPress’ end but rather on Godaddy’s, but I’m posting it here since it might shed some light on what others are experiencing:

Turns out I’ve been trying to log in on my WP sites ever since yesterday and until now, but I haven’t had luck at all, I keep getting “Connection reset” after submitting my login details. In one of the sites, weirdly enough, I can login but as soon as I click anything on the inside, it throws the same error every other site does. So it has to be a problem with PHP execution at some level.

I activated Error Logs in the Godaddy control panel, and found the following lines: (IP and domain names have been redacted)

[Fri Aug 02 00:45:25 2013] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] ModSecurity: Access denied with connection close (phase 3). Pattern match "block" at TX:evalaction. [file "/web/httpd2/modsecurity.d/activated_rules/modsecurity_gd_07_post_guardian.conf"] [line "19"] [id "10702"] [msg "BLOCKED - Automated Attacks(cached)"] [hostname "www.tu----------.org"] [uri "/wp-login.php"] [unique_id "UftjldBttSYAAF1gFlQAAAC8"]

[Fri Aug 02 00:45:48 2013] [error] [client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] ModSecurity: Access denied with connection close (phase 3). Pattern match "block" at TX:evalaction. [file "/web/httpd2/modsecurity.d/activated_rules/modsecurity_gd_07_post_guardian.conf"] [line "19"] [id "10702"] [msg "BLOCKED - Automated Attacks(cached)"] [hostname "www.i-----.com"] [uri "/web/wp-login.php"] [unique_id "Uftjq9BttSYAAF17L4cAAABL"]

I don’t know if there’s a way to bypass this or to deactivate it locally via .ini, but I’d like to know if there’s any way to do it in case Godaddy decides it’s not their problem (even though it might be).

  • The error logs say about automated attacks blocked. That’s probably because of security settings at your server. You need to talk to GoDaddy with reference to the above error log.

Well I talked to them, and after a long interchange back and forth, they whitelisted my IP. Turns out it was indeed a problem in their end which was blocking me from executing most scripts on my site. Thanks for your help!

Glad to know that you could solve the problem. ??
