Problems with download on wordpress site

Is it the same file that you placed in a zipped folder? Usually browsers block .DMG and .exe files for security reasons, i would always recommend to place them inside a zipped folder.

@ephrams: that would be one solution, but if you go around sites that have software for mac nobody has DMG in a zip file ?? Because that would mean 1 more step to do to install file on Mac. I also tried just now to place .exe file in the same folder and it also works with no problems (it shows file size).

Trying to figure out the issue, are you using Safari? this might be related to your problem https://www.wwco.com/~wls/blog/2009/08/03/safari-problems-downloading-dmg-files/ or you’re having the same problem with all browsers? if you have the url i can try it on my machine.

No it is not Safari problem it is a problem with all the browsers, so I guess it is a problem with the server but where I have no idea.

Hey Avi,

The links are working perfectly and i even tried clicking through your blog on this page https://datastudio.si/ it must be something on your machine, nothing is wrong with the links the DMG file downloads smoothly. Try to test it from another laptop.

I know that the links work, the problem is that on will show you file size when you are downloading them.

On our page we have 2 files to download. One is .ZIP, another .DMG The problem we have is when you download .zip the browser will show you file size, but when you download .DMG it will not.

I know this is not wordpress problem but I hope that someone here has an idea what is wrong.

I hate doing this.

1) It’s not WordPress.

2) It’s not a problem, it’s how browsers and servers work.

See, your browser can calculate file size based on information from your server, which is why they tell you what the size is when you download a zip. I suspect your server doesn’t do that for DMGs, which are less common than exe and zip. Talk to your server tech, but there may not be a solution.
