Problems with Cron Scheduals crashing site

have been having problems for about 12 months now where my site keeps crashing
hosting company says its because of MySql processes are not closing correctly and pile uphave have searched the net for months and everything keeps pointing me back to the woocommerce admin plugin being the issue (i installed this over a year agao and also uninstalled it)
when i look at my processes and I/O usage i can see it spikes at 17mins past the hour every hour and builds up until it crashes
