Problems Uploading WordPress to server

Hi,

I am new to WordPress and also new to using FTP.
I am stuck right at the beginning, at uploading WP.
I downloaded WP to my computer, I have created a user and database through cPanel for my website (my hosting service is blue host)
I used FileZilla to upload WP to my server, I created a new directory /here.
After uploading I saw three failed files in FileZilla, but they all had a size 0 and no name.
When I go to my domain I see no signs of WordPress having been uploaded, when I check in FileZilla I see all the WP files in the /here directory.
I did delete the directory and tried again, same result.
What did I miss?
How can I test if the upload works at all? Uploading a simple HTML page?
