problems turning wp_debug off

  • Upgraded to version 4.2 which has caused wp to throw up a lot of errors a the top of the page:

    So far have tried turning wp_debug to false – no joy
    added wp_debug display false – no joy

    reinstalled earlier version (4.1) via ftp but is not recognized – still showing 4.2

    can anyone help?
