    The .htaccess is no longer over written on older Apache Servers and the backup file is created successfully every time we have tested.

    Anyone who has had problems with sites crashing – CHECK YOUR SERVERS! They need to be Apache based and they must have mod_deflate enabled – it is a basic and inherent need for gzip. Without that – well, thats why I created the backup file. So people wouldn’t leave 1 star reviews of an awesome plugin that works with most server configurations. I put it there so people could quickly fix a stupid issue caused by a stupid plugin.

    That’s also why you receive an email telling you what to do if something goes wrong ?? Because I don’t write free plugins to screw up people’s sites, I do it because I love WordPress and I love the community.
