Problems putting something only on homepage

I’m trying to put some text and a video only on the homepage of my site at the top before all the posts. I first tried the text and tried a whole bunch of if_only tags that I found through searches, but I couldn’t find one that worked. Everything keeps showing up on all my pages. Any suggestions?
