• I had an old theme running for my blog (only my blog is in WordPress) but it got hacked and when my host fiddled with it, I lost the formatting in the right sidebar and could never figure out how to get it back.

    I switched to the Responsive theme and after customizing everything when I did an update, everything disappeared and I got no help on the forum so gave up on that theme.

    Switched to Pagelines and again customized, looked good and the next time I went to the blog the page could not be loaded. I returned to my old (de-formated) theme and it is up but I really don’t want to keep it as it looks like crap with the unformatted sidebar.

    I just changed the theme to Custom Community by Themekraft and no matter what I do my OLD theme (with the unformatted right sidebar) is still the one showing up at the url, which is https://www.biscuitsbylambchop.com/throwyourdogabone – not sure what to do at this point. I can’t get any theme to work and/or look right.

    Any advice? TIA

  • I’d suggest switching to the default WP theme with no plugins to see if you have problems there.

    Did you reinstall WP after your site got hacked?

    @biscuits

    Sucuri can’t reach your site

    Unable to connect.

    ,

    my tool reads

    HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden

    I would say you need to address your problem to your host.

    @bottleneck – I think there’s a typo in that URL – try:

    https://www.biscuitsbylambchop.com/throwyourdogabone/

    Hell yeah! A freaking typo?

    I won’t waste my time here!

    Just kidding.

    LOL – I actually should have fixed that in the OP – done now :)!

    ??

    @biscuits

    Google cached your blog on Apr 2 and Responsive Theme looks soooo good.

    This is Google’s cache

    I switched to the Responsive theme and after customizing everything when I did an update
    everything disappeared

    What did you update?

    Sorry, notifications went to spam – I guess I’m battling a thousand.

    Also sorry about the typo!

    @wpyogi Yes, I resinstalled WP, changed passwords and added extra security.

    @bottleneck I did an Update on the Responsive theme when I got notification there was one.

    My impression was that keeping everything updated (themes, WP, plugins) would help keep hackers out (along with changing PW’s etc.)

    Here’s the crazy thing. I built my own website, e-commerce and all. I’m not un-web savvy but WordPress always has issues and right now even switching themes isn’t working because customizations don’t seem to work as they should and support can be difficult for specific themes if they aren’t Pro versions – and really I don’t want to buy a theme and have the same issues, especially just for my blog.

    Is there a theme you would recommend for the following needs:

    – One main column and a right sidebar.
    – Preview of blog posts with photo
    – Ability to have a logo in the header
    – Ability to change font and theme colors

    I know they can all do this, but I mean with some obvious ease. The one I’m trying now from Themekraft lets me choose all these but nothing is changing. So frustrating.

    If things are not changing – that’s usually caching – and you have Super Cache enabled:

    <!-- Dynamic page generated in 1.838 seconds. -->
    <!-- Cached page generated by WP-Super-Cache on 2013-05-13 14:15:48 -->

    <!-- super cache -->

    Try deactivating it while you are working on the site and/or clearing it.

    These do not sound like theme issues – Responsive is a really great theme and tons of people use it without issues. Where is your site hosted?

    Try Suffusion – it has tons of options and great support from the developer.

    Thanks. @wpyogi. I’ll try that.

    When I updated the Responsive theme and the homepage of my blog defaulted to their “example page” I went on their own forum and the main response was oh there were lots of changes and I got so frustrated I left the theme. I’ll give it another try. Just seems odd if I have to reformat everything after every update but hopefully this will work.

    Trying Suffusion. Looks good.

    Yep, it’s a great theme – I think you’ll like it :).

    And you are correct about Responsive ?? – there was a problem with that update – which really was unusual for that theme – you just happened to catch it then ?? . Sorry you had that bad luck. I think they got it sorted out, but it’s definitely frustrating when something like that happens, especially when you’re pretty new to WP.

    Post a new thread if you need help with anything else. For theme help with Suffusion, there’s lots of good info and help here:

    Oh and Hostway is my host. Having the same issue now with Suffusion so looking for where to deactivate cache. Will that affect my posts?

    So crazy. I’m really not new to WP. My Shantia theme was pretty well customized and looked great until the hack and my host doing something that messed with the formatting – they never could figure it out, nor could I.

    I turned off Super Cache and I activated Responsive again and again none of my posts came up – it was their template example, except that my company name was in the header.

    So I reactivated Suffusion, after turning off super cache and although I keep changing the background to white, it is still dark gray on my blog…. really seems no themes are working correctly for me…. I’ll go over to their support and try to resolve there too.

    Any other ideas?

    Check with your hosts that they are not running a web cache. Ditto your ISP.
