    I’ve installed wordpress on my domain in the directory follies.org.uk/wp, as I have an existing website sitting in the root directory. I’ve built my new website and everything is ready to go and replace the original website. I’ve followed the instructions in the document under the Method II section. I’ve got down as far as point 9 and hit a problem. I can open the index.php file but I don’t see exactly what is suggested in the instructions -it says :Change the following and save the file. Change the line that says:

    require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp-blog-header.php' );
    to the following, using your directory name for the WordPress core files:
    require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wordpress/wp-blog-header.php' );

    Mine says :

    /** Load WordPress Bootstrap */
    require_once( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/admin.php' );

    /** Load WordPress dashboard API */
    require_once(ABSPATH . 'wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php');

    Which part do I change such that my new site opens from follies.org.uk? I’ve removed the old index.htm to stop any confusion between the old and new sites.

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    I should add that i can no longer get into my WordPress control panel either – when i logged in with my usual credentials I just get a blank page that says ‘https://follies.org.uk/wp-login.php’ in the address bar. This is worrying as I can no longer get in, nor give you a login to have a look. Any help to get my new website visible again would be much appreciated. I’m rather desparate to see two months solid work come to nothing!
    I did spend some time trying different abckup add-ins until I found one that worked. So I do have a very recent backup, but I can only restore it through the WordPress dashbaord that I can no longer access.

    hello ,

    are you sure you editing correct file? index.php in /wp folder
    check contents of index.php appear for me.
    https://s.nimbus.everhelper.me/share/1401908/rc2kg6vu241y891bm5w1

    also pls replace
    require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp-blog-header.php' );
    with
    require( dirname( __FILE__ ) . '/wp/wp-blog-header.php' );
    /wp instead of /wordpress as your folder name for wordpress files location is wp.

    this is just basic stuff, just follow the steps clearly and ping back here if it doesnt work.

    let me know if this works.

Note I’ve designing awebsite rather thana blog, so I don’t think I have the bit that says wp-blogheader.php

    Well I had another look and found I’d got an older version of index.php that was a lot shorter than the one above, and looked just like your example. So I renamed that to be the current one and changed that one line. All is now working. I have no idea how the file got all thos extra lines as I’d never opened it before, so WordPress must have done something. Thanks for putting me in the right direction.
