I have tried the default theme and deactivating all plugins to no avail.

i am seeing this in error on the status bar

    Line 85
    Char 9
    Error ‘tinymce is undefined’

I have searched the forum but cannot see solution.
    Any help would be welcome

    twolanz’s solutions worked for me:

I tried this, but all the files are there:

Same problem here but when I searched around I realised my wp-includes folder is incomplete.
Maybe you guys should check that too

I love this guy! Who is it? Twobits?
I get the answer from someone who knows that the upgrade entailed five (FIVE) files – and a lil punch-and-judy show on the side.

    Thank You and Please!

The information is exactly what I came in here to find.
As for the difficulty we have and simply being referred back to WordPress.com, I have SEVERIAL issues about that. Following their instruction regularly leaves me up the proverbial creek in a wire netting canoe and no paddle.

Despite my no doubt poor expertise, I find the syntax occasionally slippery (for one not commercially and professionally involved in such) and it has actually ONLY been in the forum that I have seen advice regarding the limited actions required for an UPGRADE.

Oh! And auto-upgrade won’t work for me. It says I failed the cleanup test, so there! America? I was there. Not all it’s cracked up to be. Try Australia – at least the clocks are right!

    Please and Thanks ??

Thanks twolanz until I read the post you linked in your post, I had a feeling something was not right with Filezilla.

I noticed when I got the file count for the upgrade folder on my local machine it was e.g. 100 and when I transferred using Filezilla the queued files would show a different number mostly less. It seems that after upgrading to the latest stable version of filezilla, it does not move all files and folders over.

I took the suggestion of another poster and upgraded using a nightly build and Filezilla worked like a charm. So this seemed to solved the issue of the TinyMCE visual editor not working but not quite.

For some reason I found a folder in wp-content/uploads/js_cache/TinyMCE.blab blah blah and after deleting this folder my and turning off and on NextGen gallery ONLY then did my visual editor come back. If I disable the NextGen gallery and go to new post, the visual editor is gone.

I have absolutely NO IDEA of why NextGen being active is dependent for me to see the visual editor. Granted I could care less about the editor, as I am able to post without it. But this is wild stuff for an application that so many people say is solid and stable.

I’m not sure if this will help anyone who did an update to 2.6.5… but when I updated to 2.6.2 my Write toolbar got fried. A helpful user suggested an idea that worked for me. Thread is here.

It was a simple fix. I’ve gotten a lot of help on this forum, so if this helps anyone, I’m happy.

On a side note, I tried transferring the upgrade files to my webhosting company again using HTTP upload instead of using FileZilla, fixed my problems.

I can verify the FileZilla problem – if you download the 3.6.1 RC1 version from here: https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client&beta=1

…things should be back to normal (I had to reselect “use visual editor” out of my user account and refresh a couple of times by the way)

    Bob

I was having this problem…here is what I found. I went to the /wp-includes/js/tinymce folder and saw that the directory structure did not upload over FTP correctly. Many folders were missing, so I manually uploaded them individually…for instance, the themes folder was missing, the plugins folder was missing, etc…Only the langs and utils folders and the base files were appearing.

    It should look like this:
    /var/www/html/wp-includes/js/tinymce
    /langs
    /plugins
    /themes
    /utils
    blank.htm
    license.txt
    etc, etc etc

Im not sure why this seems to be a problem. Ive got it working great now…and it was simply missing folders. I tried several times to upload the entire tinymce directory, and every time, it failed to upload several folders.

Compare your local wp file structure to your servers…

    Hope that helps!

(By the by…Im one of those “Americans,” you all seem to hate so much.)

    This post worked for me.
I got to step four, and after a refresh and cache clearing, I am back up.. kitchen sink and all.

I just upgraded my blog to 2.6.5 but I am unable to post anything new and I keep timing out. We have done trouble shooting and ruled out all of the plugins. We believe that it is due to a javascript error or SQL. Has anyone else had this issue? Or can they point me in the right direction to get this fixed?

    Thanks,
