This has been very disappointing. I really liked the former version of Custom Community. The new one is a whole different theme in appearance and functionality. I’m sorry if I sound angry, but I’m not happy. Our site is https://marthadallas.org.
    1. I had to create a new header and did so to the exact suggested dimensions, but it tiles. There’s no way to just center it and have it not tile. And I tried changing the header height and that seemed to do nothing.
    2. We had a wonderful page of blogs in a gallery-type format – photos for each blog about three across the page with introductory info across the bottom of each. I tried choosing different options for blog post format from the writing settings, and none of them work. It just stays on the same default, which is not what we want. 3. The page is https://marthadallas.org/reflections-stories/.
When on a page, if you hover over the link for that page in the menu, the background of that cell goes dark green with dark blue font, which you can’t read.
At this point, those are the main problems. Anyone got an suggestions? Thanks!

  • Hi TreeSpaulding,

I’m very sorry for your experiences. We needed to rebuild Custom Community. It was build on the first BuddyPress Default theme and totally outdated. We also couldn’t update the theme easy. The theme architecture of BuddyPress has changed completely and the old system is not supported anymore.

We have created an update script fror the update from cc 1.x to cc2 but in some situations the update script does not run. We are working to fix this.

The feeling of a complete different theme happens if the update script does not work. We are working on a solution right now and will come up with an update soon.

We also do not delete the old options. If you need to revert back out of any reason, you can safely go back to the premium version and get a free update to the 1.x version as a 1.x farewell present ??

The CC 1.x Pro version is available on Github! From now on its up to the community to update it if needed and keep it working.

We want to focus 100% on the current theme (ie. CC 2) and thus say goodbye with a big THANK to 1.x! Custom Community was a great success and we believe that CC 2 is going to follow up onto this fantastic road and become even more successful.

    Greetings,

Thanks for your quick response, Sven. Will the problems we’re having with the header and post format be fixed with the update you’re working on? When do you expect that to be done – a week, a month, 6 months? Thanks!

There are several improvements being worked on parallely (mostly focusing on the only partially working update / old settings import script), so I cannot pinpoint the exact date, but over the course of the next few days also the header issue will be improved.

    About the second issue:

First off: Said site seems to timeout a lot – first I thought it was offline or non reachable, but then, nearly at the end of the regular timeout (30 seconds) it finally started to load. Traceroute shows a lot of lost HTTP packages and horrible ping times .. so aside of addressing this issue, I’d suggest finding another, less overloaded (aka more reliable) web host ??

So, back to the issue itself: Gallery-type – does that mean you’ve been using a Custom Post type? Or are you referring to the Post Formats?

The first one sadly cannot be addressed inside themes anymore – the official WordPress Theme policy does not allow it. The second one is not really being used yet, but I could add it on the “nice to have” feature request list ??

    cu, w0lf.
