Problems adding multiple images to galleries

I can’t use either the flash upload or the non-flash upload to select and add multiple files to a gallery. I’ve tested in IE, Firefox and Chrome.
Flash version: will let you select multiple files but it will only work if you select and upload a single file. Draging option opens the image in the browser!
Non-flash version: the open dialog doesn’t support multiple selection but if i add files one at a time to the upload screen it will actually add all of them.
Using WP 3.4.2 and NextGen 1.9.6
