I get exactly the same error, and the worst part is that there’s no recommended solution, just that error message.

I don’t know if this actually works for everybody but FOR ME it did. I disabled a javascript optimization plugin called “Async JavaScript”at least on the cart/checkout page. Make sure to disable all JavaScript optimizer plugins and give it a try again.

Thanks for the suggestion @mauriciocasaco95 where can I find that to disable, in the paypal plugin?

No, if you didn’t install a JavaScript optimization plugin (it has nothing to do with paypal nor wocommerce) then there might be another problem. Though the problem that a lot of people are having surely got something to do with recent woocomerce paypal plugin updates.

@mauriciocasaco95 use on my WP ROCKET website
    Surely the key is there…
I’ll take a look, thank you very much for the advice.

    Hi @juajua,

You may want to perform a full conflict test to rule out eventual issues with the theme or a different plugin. We recommend temporarily activating the default theme Storefront and disabling all other plugins except for?WooCommerce and?PayPal Payments to see if the behavior persists.
More information about plugin and theme conflicts can be found in the WooCommerce Self-Service Guide.`

Caching plugins like WP-Rocket can potentially cause problems when caching is enabled on the cart or checkout pages. But this shouldn’t be the case in default configurations. If the problem persists, you can also try the version linked below.

@mauriciocasaco95 Certain optimization plugins may cause issues with the PayPal scripts when executing on the cart/checkout pages, similar to caching plugins. But this is a general problem when more complex scripts are involved and should be resolved by disabling the optimizations on these pages.

The only genuine relationship between different reports of this kind is the generic error message the order potentially fails with. Beyond that, every case usually has a different cause. That’s also why we request everyone to create their own thread.
Following the next version 1.7.0, the error messaging has been improved to replace these generic WooCommerce errors with more useful messages so it should be more clear what’s going on. The release should happen soon, but a pre-release version can be downloaded from GitHub for testing: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce-paypal-payments/releases

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

Today a new plugin update came out, I updated it there and it was resolved.

    Problem solved.

    Thank you very much!

    Hi @sjdeines,

PayPal Payments version 1.6.5 did not yet declare WordPress 5.9 compatibility but the latest update 1.7.0 does. In any case, PayPal Payments will always work with the latest WordPress and WooCommerce versions. For any questions unrelated to the thread, please create a separate one yourself. Thanks!

And thanks for the feedback @juajua. The new version should help quite a bit with different issues that have been reported. If any further questions come up or if you’d like to provide any feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
