A few days ago one of our sites became unresponsive, no one could sign in. Our sysop called our host provider, who said there was a problem with the wp-maintenance-mode plug in, and fixed it. He did not give any more details to our sysop, but I was told to post this here to inform the plug-in author that problems arose with this app.

  • Hello @donshirer,

Sorry to hear that. But it’s kind of hard to repair something without knowing the symptoms. “shut down our site” or “one of our sites became unresponsive, no one could sign in” it’s pretty generic.

If you can get us more details from your hosting provider or your sysop, we will be able to investigate and solve the problem (if any).

Thanks for trying to help us,
    George

Sorry we have so little info. Our sysop is new at this and didn’t press the host techie for details. All we know is that he disabled the plug-in and we were then able to sign in. He said the screen showed an http 500 error message.

@donshirer: Oh, I see. Hope I’m not asking too much, but:

    1. What PHP version do you use for that website/project?
    2. Do you happen to have the PHP error logs from the time the issue encountered? They should be available inside your cPanel / Plesk account.

    Thanks,
    George

    Hello,
I have my site with maintenance mode ON, however, I need to work on the pages and see the changes I am doing… But all I see is the maintenance page… how can I see the changes on the customizer?
    Thanks.

    Hello @deccosolutions,

Do you have a cache plugin installed? If yes, try to disable it.
