    Hi

I just tried to update my Wordfence plugin (free version) to version 6.3.18 and it broke my site. The error message appeared on every page: Warning: require_once(vendor/wordfence/wf-waf/src/init.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/sites/t/tintavivatranslation.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/wordfence.php on line 51 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘vendor/wordfence/wf-waf/src/init.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/newage/lib/php’) in /var/sites/t/tintavivatranslation.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/wordfence.php on line 51.

My host advised me to disable the plugin, which I did, but obviously now my site is unprotected and I’m not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

    Many thanks,
    Ruth Grant

  • Hi ruth,
this means that the update failed and left a partial plugin installed. We are not sure why this happens sometimes. It seems to happen to some other plugins as well as far as we know. The fix is to just delete the Wordfence folder in wp-content/plugins and reinstall Wordfence. All your data should be intact since it’s stored in the database.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi wfasa

Thank you, I’ve done that and it did the trick – I think I just panicked because it looked quite catastrophic! Everything is back to normal now. Thanks so much for your help!

    wfasa,

I’m not as smart as ruth_a_t and am unclear how I get to “wp-content/plugins.” Help most appreciated.

    Tom

    Hi Thomas,
You will have to use FTP/SSH or any file browser your web host may be providing to access the file system directly on your site.

    Best of luck for now!

FYI, found this page via google looking for a solution to the problem.

The issue for _me_ was that I had ‘vendor’ in my .gitignore file, so when I added the new plugin the vendor files weren’t included in my commit. I had to change my .gitignore to just be my base directory vendor by using /vendor.
