We pay for a monthly subscription with Woocommerce for our online store, however we having a continuous issue with how the customer receives our online video courses once they have purchased them through our website.
We have been using Vimeo to host our courses and on the ‘product’ page on woocommerce, under downloadable/virtual products we are putting the vimeo url link to that course. The intention being that then when a customer purchases the product, they should click on it in ‘my downloads’ on ‘my account’ and be able to view the link.
We tested this internally and it worked. However, It has since been brought to our attention that customers are instead, just getting a blank ,unopenable file download onto their device, instead of the intended function of being redirected to the video link.
Please advise why this is and how it can be solved. As we do not want to be paying a monthly fee for woocommerce when the main ecommerce function of our store, the customers receiving their purchased products, is not working.

    Howdy!

Selling videos is possible with WooCommerce, but it’s currently not possible to paste a Vimeo link into the downloadable product file area and have that work consistently, at least not without a 3rd party plugin or custom development.

The information here outlines some options (with YouTube as the example, but same info applies to Vimeo): https://www.speakinginbytes.com/2016/11/selling-videos-woocommerce/

We also recommend Vimeo PRO to make sure you can protect the video content: https://vimeo.com/pro

    I hope this helps!

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
