Problem with using custom field as graphic

    Hi,
    Since I have a majority of posts without a featured graphic, I set a default image to be shown instead, and that all works fine. But I tried using the custom fields option so we can have a different graphic for each post, and have run into problems.

    I created a field with the Advanced Custom Fields plugin, since they have an image field, and put an image in. However, when I check the custom fields check box in the RP settings, the image doesn’t show because the image tag uses just the media library ID# of the image as the src.

    Are we just supposed to put the image’s URL into a text field and use that? That seems a little convoluted.

    Also, the images we are putting into this custom field are already in the body of the post. It would simplify things greatly if the plugin automatically pulls the first image from the body if there is no featured image.

    I’ve installed that Advanced Custom Field plugin on my blog and have tried almost everything to make it work with our plugin and I semi-did it! ??

    The thing is, you’ll have to create a new custom field in your Advanced Custom Field plugin settings page, but instead of choosing an ‘Image’ for your Field Type, you should select the ‘Text’ option instead. Also, ‘No formatting’ option should also be selected.

    Now, when creating new blog posts (or when editing older ones), you should now just insert the image URL (complete with the format .jpg/.png ending) to your Advanced Custom Field that you just created, and it should be compatible with out plugin as well.

    Not to forget, you should select that newly added custom field value in our plugin settings as well, so that our plugin will know what to look for.

    But to clear some things out about our thumbnailer — it works something like this:

    Custom Field option > Featured Image > first image in post > default image (for blog posts without images)

    This means that the first image from your blog posts should already be picked up (for that particular related post), if there’s no featured images set, nor no custom field values.

    Is this not the case? Are any of your blog posts behaving any differently? Are you using any other plugins for inserting your images or are they not stored in your Media Gallery?

    Okay, understood on the custom field.

    It was weird – for a while it wasn’t pulling the first image in the post and just displaying the default. But since I checked and subsequently unchecked the custom field option, it now seems to be pulling the first image correctly. Either that or I wasn’t keeping correct track of which posts had images and which had none (which is likely, as, of the posts without a featured image we are talking about a couple thousand without images in the body, and only several dozen with). In any case, it does seem to be working correctly.
