Doing manual upgrade as per extended instructions and hitting dead end.

Once all the new files are in place and I go to /wp-admin/upgrade.php I get the message “One or more database tables are unavailable. The database may need to be repaired.”

Following that I get the two Repair or Repair & Optimize choices and whichever I choose takes me to the next screen which asks if I’m sure I want to do this but no yes/no option. Only think I can click is ‘Please try again’ which just takes me back to the previous page.

If I restore original installation everything looks fine, so database appears to be intact.

Can anyone offer any advice? New to WP and a bit stuck! Thanks

  • Have you tried deactivating all plugins and switching to the default theme?

Esmi, thanks for the reply. I had deactivated all plugins but not themes so have just tried again with only the default theme active but getting same result.

Access your WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), select all of the tables, and choose “Repair tables” from the pull-down menu.

A fresh tarball seems to have solved my problems. Should have tried that sooner. Thanks, esmi and macmanx, and sorry if I wasted your time. Appreciate the help!
