Problem with Survey- Inserting the code

I am using the survey plugin and I am trying to insert a survey into the sidebar. I am using a text widget but when I put in the html code [survey 1] it doesn’t show up. It shows up as the text [survey 1] I have also tried <!-[SURVEYS 1]–> and <!– surveys 1–> and variations and <in>][survey 1]> and every variation i can think of. I can’t put the surveys in posts either. I click on the HTML editor and copy and paste the code, but it still won’t work. If I put [survey 1] it SAYS [survey 1] in text and if I put <survey 1> it does nothing. Can anyone help me? I would really like to be able to put surveys on my site.
