Problem with sub-domains/languages

I’m writing for some help. I’m building a multilingual site, with languages in sub-domains. I thought to make it all work in the default language, then create a sub-domain for another one (www.en.something.com), install wordpress to it, and the theme, and then FTP overwrite everything in it with the files from the original domain. I’ve managed to do this, and I can access every page in the sub-domain manually, but when I click on any link in the sub-domain site, it takes me to back to the original domain (www.something.com).
My questions are, can this be resolved with a free plugin like qTranslate, can I edit URLs for the sub-domain links/pages in some way other than the one on the “Edit page/permalink” option, or do I really have to do the whole work all over again, for each new sub-domain?
