• Hi:

I am excluding the “membership” and “forums” category from my general site search by using the Search Widget in my sidebar, and, according to your instructions, using the functions.php code you gave.

You had also given me shortcodes to use for the search in my membership pages and forum pages … so there I used Custom HTML widgets and inserted the shortcodes and created Search widgets for my membership and forum pages sidebars.

But even after this the membership site search is showing up all relevant posts on my site instead of staying within the membership category.

Further, in the main site search of my site if I should type my name “shobha ponnappa” or just “shobha” the layout goes all wonky for the search results page. This doesn’t happen for any other word. Could you please tell me if some setting is wrong?

I tried adding my name versions to stopwords but still it shows up in this wonky fashion with page layout all messed up.

It’s hard to say. If you search for “ponnappa” with Relevanssi admin search (Dashboard > Admin search), what do you get? The same three posts as in the front end?

For some reason the page layout is broken and one of the results end up in the sidebar. However, you can search for all those three posts on the page individually and have them appear without problems, so it should not be anything in those posts.

Given you’re using Genesis, I can’t help much here. With a regular theme I could take a look at the search results template and see if there’s something wrong there, but Genesis doesn’t work like that. I don’t understand Genesis much,.

Layout for WordPress basic search screwed up on my Genesis site. Past week or so, I suppose. Also using Genesis. Using Toolset, but CPT searches are fine. Disabling Relevanssi fixes the problem. GENESIS problem?

@suzyoo are you using custom excerpts in Relevanssi? Try disabling them. Does that help?

For me the problem persists even if I disable Relevanssi. The basic WordPress search also gives this wonky disgusting layout for my name search.

@shobha2208 You’re in the wrong place then, and should be asking about this from Genesis support. Relevanssi has nothing to do with your problem.

@suzyoo Since your problem is likely actually related to Relevanssi, please start a new thread for it. Do check the custom excerpts, and if you could post a link to your site or a screenshot of what happens, that could also be helpful.

Aha! I was messing around with Relevanssi earlier in the evening and checked it. Just unchecked and now everything is FINE. Thank you so much, love your plugin!
