    Hi all

Since i was hacked and moved my content to a new server i have problem with the permalinks. I set my Permalink structure to “/%postname%/”

If i want to post an article in the admin, i get following error message:

Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match.php]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in XXX/wp-includes/class-wp.php on line 207

Warning: preg_match() [function.preg-match.php]: Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in XXX/wp-includes/class-wp.php on line 208

The same error i get when i open a single article.

I don’t get the error if i change the permalink structure back to default but i need to have the postname permalinks.

In this forum i’ve seen many users with the same problem and i tried to fix the problem with the help of the answers in that posts. But no one works.
    I tried following things:
    – deactivated all plugins, error still exists
    – deleted all data in wp-admin and wp-includes and uploaded it again from new installation, error still exists
    – changed the theme to twentyfifteen
    – changed .htaccess, error still exists.

Do you have any idea what i can try to fix the problem?

    – First off, try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting and renaming your WordPress .htaccess file.

    Does the error go away?

If that works, then try reading Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure again. If clearing your Permalinks does not alleviate the issue, this could be attributed to anything from a web server configuration to a bad WordPress install.

    Hi Tara
    Thanks for your response.
If i resetting my custom permalink back to default setting the error goes away.

I tried now to install wordpress new and include the old database. I get the same error message if i try to set the custom permalink.

Maybe the error is because of the web server configuration. Do you know which server configuration can make this troubles?

Have you discussed this issue with your hosting provider?

    Hi Tara
The Problem is solved now, i had some tags in the Optional for Catergoy Basis and Tags Basis. When i removed this settings, the error didn’t appear.
    Thank you!

    You are welcome ??

    Hi,
i have a similar problem with permalinks.
I update wordpress yesterday and now, if i dont’use “plain” permalinks the error appears:

Warning: preg_match(): Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in /web/htdocs/www.filippogambetta.com/home/en/wp-includes/class-wp.php on line 231
Warning: preg_match(): Compilation failed: nothing to repeat at offset 1 in /web/htdocs/www.filippogambetta.com/home/en/wp-includes/class-wp.php on line 232

I have tried to deactivate all plugin and to change the theme, but the error still exists.
I have the principal website in the hosting root, and the english version in a folder named “en”. (i have 2 wordpess installation for two languages)
The principal one works correctly, and the “en” version have the error, but the plugin, the theme, and the hosting are the same…
    Thank you very much.

    Hello @doublet and @llillibit

I am having the same problem with one of our sites, and finding no clue on how to fix it. Did you find anything yet?

    Thanks

Hi, we never got the issue, since we’re the sysadmins of that client, we forwarded that “brownie” to the client’s developer ??

    Good luck !
