I had this problem with a previous install, so I reinstalled WordPress 3.3.1 and… the problem is still there. Here’s the problem:

Whenever I select a category for a post and that category has a parent category, I get a popup box on the front end of my site that says “Authentication Required.” If I change the category to one without a a parent or remove the parent category all together, the authentication popup goes away.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated, I kind of like having parent categories.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
