• I discovered a problem using <!–nextpage–> and permalinks in WordPress 2.4 SVN. It works fine without permalinks, but it does not with permalinks. Everything is working. I can dig into the archives, I can look for posts using categories, tags, whatever. But I cannot access page 2, 3 etc. of a page.

The link looks the same as in WordPress 2.3.x “domain/pagename/2/” (for example). This works fine in WP 2.3. But when I click that link in WP 2.4 I get a 404 error. There is a more absurd example: I do have a third page on that page. Of course, WP generates a link like “domain/pagename/3/”. When I click that link, WP finds a completely different post (a post, not a page!) that starts with a 3. There is some kind of redirecting, I guess.

    What causes this?
And how can it be fixed?

Got it. I don’t know what exactly the problem was, but I deleted the “rewrite_rules” entry in the “wp_options” table. Now it’s working.

When did WP 2.4 come out?

WP 2.4 did not come out. This post refers to the development version (SVN trunk) which some weeks ago was labeled “2.4”. The current release is 2.3.3, the next public release 2.5.

msi08, go to the head of the class. I have read a ton of posts here and gotten all kinds of snotty replies from mods and “experts” but you solved it. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I deleted the rewrite_rules from the database and it finally works.

I’d like to reiterate that I have always received prompt and polite assistance from the WordPress team.

I’m always amazed at the quality of the software they’ve produced and their committment to excellence.

    Thanks folks.
