• I have been successfully using a child theme of TwentyFourteen for several months on my site (www.seacreaturefacts.com). However, today the site crashed as I was trying to copy the functions.php file from TwentyFourteen into the Child Theme. I used the “One-Click Child Theme” plugin to create and install my child theme originally. This plugin makes a child theme that simply has its own stylesheet, and if you want to make changes to the other templates (the .php files), you can copy them from the parent them into the child theme and save the changes. I was trying to copy the functions.php file when my site suddenly went down, giving me an internal server error. I contacted my hosting company (Fat Cow) about the issue, and they told me the problem is with my child theme. They re-activated the parent theme, and then told me there’s “a problem with the child theme” (they didn’t give me any more details, though I asked) and that I would need to contact WordPress to resolve the issue. Now, the site is slow to load and seems to have a strange string of words stuck to the top of every page in my dashboard: “with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0! Usage of user levels by plugins and themes is deprecated. Use roles and capabilities instead. in /hermes/waloraweb061/b488/moo.seacreaturefactcom/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3508”.

I do not want to run my site on the TwentyFourteen theme as I spent a lot of time making alterations to the appearance for the child theme and I do not have time to keep making these every time I update the site. I would like to restore the child theme I had before as soon as possible so that I can get back to running things as usual.

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

    Sydney

  • I also have the almost the same problem when I updated my theme. I can’t find any solution how to fix it.

    Here’s the error :
PHP Notice: has_cap was called with an argument that is deprecated since version 2.0! Usage of user levels by plugins and themes is deprecated. Use roles and capabilities instead. in /wp-includes/functions.php on line 3508

There is a plugin using old deprecated argument.

Deactivate all plugins, see if the warning message go away, then reactivate one by one to rule out the one that causes it.
