Hello! I have a problem when I upload an image of the contact person, for some reason Connections plugin adds an extra .jpg to the filename which makes the file unreadable.

The original file uploaded is filename.jpg. After uploading the file as a contact persons image the file is renamed to filename.jpg.jpg

    Any idea why this happens?

It sounds like a plugin conflict, though I have never seen this before.

Please try the steps outlines in this troubleshooting doc:

Also, does the same happen with a PNG? What about JPEG instead of JPG?

    Hello!

I tried with downloading the website to my computer and there was no problem there.

When this problem started we changed server of the website. I wonder if it could have something to do with this serverchange. Maybe there is a setting on the server that needs to be done?

Is there any plugin running on the server that is not running on the site downloaded on your computer?

Have you tried the plugin conflict check?

It is all the same plugins, and I have also tried deactivating all plugins but the problem is still there.

When you upload jpegs in the Media Library, does the same occur?

Does the same happen with a PNG?

Does the same happen if the file is named with .jpeg instead of .jpg?

I see there is a similiar problem when I upload images to the image-library. I can see that that file is uploaded but I can’t see the image, there is an empty thumbnail in the media library. When I try to view the image with the imagefilelink it says “cannot be found”. But I see that the file is in fact there in Filezilla. The difference with the connections images and the media library problem is that that in the media library the image is not renamed. I am guessing both of these problems has something to do with the server?

Yes, if it affects the Media Library, you’ll have to contact the web host support team. I didn’t think of it before, but I am not surprised to learn this because Connections uses core WP features/functions for image upload processing. Unfortunately, I can not even begin to guess what needs to be changed on the server to correct this.

If you have not tried, see if it affects other image types such as PNG and alternate file extensions such as JPEG. That can help narrow causes.

Lastly, please visit the WordPress Site Health admin page under the Tools admin menu. The could be issues listed here that WP detects and offer solutions to.

Please, let me know what you learn. I am curious about the cause and the solution. Thanks!

Thank you Steven! Tried PNG and JPEG with the same result. I will try contacting the server host and let you know. =)

The problem is now solwed, it was the filepermissions on the new server that were incorrect. Thank you for helping out!

Thanks for letting me know. I would never have guessed that permissions would have caused such results. I’ll have to see if I can duplicate this scenario and add a check for it.
