• Hello,

I have noticed some display issues on the pictures displayed in my posts since I have updated to the last version of WordPress. Compared to the original image, the pictures colours in the post are different and more saturated. Here is an exemple with my original picture on the left side and the picture in the post on the right side. My original picture is closer to the red while the end result is closer to orange.
I put a lot of effort on the images and their editing. I’m very sad to see how different and ugly they look on my website. Please help me overcome this situation.
I can’t provide a link yet to the faulty image since I don’t want to publish it until this problem is fixed.

Thanks in advance for your time,
    Lise

I’m sorry your good work has been corrupted by automated processes. I feel your frustration. The only way WP influences image quality is by way of JPEG compression factor. Color casts are due to the image editor package included with PHP, external to WP. Usually GD, but sometimes Imagick. Imagick, when available, has additional controls though WP does not make use of them.

I’m afraid your options are not good. You could force WP to not use downsized images and instead use the full size original image as it was uploaded. This can drastically increase page load speeds. Additionally, the browser will scale images anyway, which could still introduce color casts. The other option is to replace the auto-downsized images with images you’ve downsized yourself through more accurate means. Obviously tedious and time consuming. Some image editing software has some sort of macro facility that will automate this process while giving you much greater control over the downsizing process quality.

I know you’ve taken great pains to ensure your images are the very best and most accurate. That is commendable, but the fact remains that many user’s displays are not all that accurate and they are not seeing your awesome work in the way that you intended anyway. Consider this when you are deciding if other approaches are worth the effort.
