Problem with homepage widget

I’m using the Storefront theme from Woocommerce, and added a custom side-bar on my homepage in order to use this plugin on the homepage. Rather than my social media icons, I’m getting little squares.

I do have it working successfully on my other pages in the themes regular side-bars.

Can anyone possibly shed some light on what may be causing this please?
The code in the widgets is exactly the same.
