Problem with home page and language icons

  • Good morning.
    I installed and set (I think and hope correctly) the plugin.
    Actually in a first test everything works very well.
    A few hours later, the icon that allows you to change the language from Italian to English works, vice versa returning to the Italian home page is impossible. I’m always directed to the English one.

    The strange thing, as I was saying, that after the installation and a first test everything works, without any plugin or theme but only by inserting some pages this problem appears after a while.

    Although the italy icon has the right link, if I click on it I’m always directed to the english home page.
    Even if I delete from url /home-en comuqnue return to the same English home page!!!

    I do not understand what it is due to.

    I think I found the problem but I do not understand why.
    In the htaccess file I have these lines of code, which once deleted, allow the correct operation. OK.
    The but surprise is that once rehabilitated everything works anyway ????
