Problem with German letters / Umlaute

  • Hello!
    My contact form plugin (Version 4.5, WP version 4.6) works nicely.
    However, I have got problems with specific German letters (Umlaute, like ? or ü).

    Some email clients (e.g. Outlook) display words like ‘V?ter’ as ‘V &-a-u-m-l-; ter’ or ‘Stra?e’ as ‘Stra &-s-z-l-i-g-; e’ in emails received (without the dashes).
    Others (e.g. Google Mail) display the letters correctly.

    Is there anything I can do within the plugin (or the WP installation? [the language of the whole installation is set to ‘German’) to have these letters displayed correctly?

    Any help would be highly appreciated!
