I tried to disable the plugins and the theme. Suddenly it worked. I then started enabling them and it worked until I enabled all of them. Then I republished the page and it broke again (without enable/disable of plugins).

Now I disabled all plugins and activated the default theme and it still won’t work.

I cleared the cache, just in case changed the browser – same thing.

That’s the good point from which you have to start again.
If you enable all plugins at once you can’t see which one cause conflict, you have to activate one by one and check every time.
I don’t know why the second time it hasn’t worked, but you have to try again, with no hurry. I know that this in a live site is a little bit annoying, but you have to do it if you want to find a solution.
Anyway, qTranslate can cause this type of issue.

For people who might land here in the future: There is some order of disabling the themes and plugins which fixes the behavior. I couldn’t identify the order – it sometimes works, sometimes not.

Also once the page with the gallery is edited, it breaks again.

I gave up on NextGEN Gallery and went for another plugin.

@tizz: Thanks a lot for your help, greatly appreciated!

    … and we wholeheartedly agree!

@uraster – Thanks for your efforts but without all of the details of your site we would have been as hard-pressed to offer anything more than what @tizz has.

Sorry, no idea what more I can give you as information. Standard WordPress website, offered over a standard hosting solution, using Plex Desk, using “Post name” permlinks and the gallery does not work.

@uraster – We’ve seen theme conflicts and other active plugin conflicts … I did not see that information provided. You are welcome to submit a Bug Report (https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) with your site specifics if it would be more convenient.

We would need log in and FTP credentials for your WordPress installation as well, please include those with the Bug Report.

    Thanks!

@cais: As I said I disabled all plugins and all themes. I was left with the classic theme and no plugins, same effect.

Sorry, that’s a productive web site of my customers, I cannot give you access to that for bug fixing.

@uraster – We can definitely understand you not wanting to open a production site to be reviewed by our support staff or or developers but we would be happy to try to help you sort this out on a mirrored development version of the site if that would be better for you.

    Thanks!

@cais: I really appreciate your efforts. There is no development version of the site but would it help if I would make a backup from the httpdocs folder and the database and send them to you for investigation? I don’t think the customer will decide to go back to NextGEN but if I can help you test it and eventually find a problem, if such exists, I’d like to do that.

@uraster – We may want to have a look at that option later … but it might be worth waiting for our next (beta) release first. We hope to have that out very soon.
