Hi, I have used eShop successfully for a couple of years now purely for selling downloads.
I can’t remember whether there has been an update but suddenly I am getting some strange things happening.
Suddenly people said they weren’t getting their downloads or emails to tell them where to download. Then yesterday I suddenly got loads of notifications saying there were masses of failed payments. When I looked at them they were all for the same email address. So I decided to buy one of my own downloads. It appeared to work fine as a buyer so I refunded myself from PayPA. However when I checked my email I have got 26 failed payments emails plus the successful payment one as well.
Has anyone got any idea what I have changed in my settings to cause such havoc.
Any help would be much appraciated!

  • Please check that you are using the latest version of eShop 6.3.11.

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all other plugins deactivated?

Please post the url to your shop page.

    Hi, thanks for getting back.

Yes I am using the 6.3.11 version.

I use Twenty Ten theme and always have.It was automatically updated on 9 May to version 3.9.1. I haven’t tried replicating the problem with all other plugins deactivated. Should I?

The URL to my shop page is https://exercisesforosteoarthritis.com/buy-how-to-treat-osteoarthritis-naturally/

    Thanks again.

Also I am still getting failure notifications for my test transaction. Just had two more in the last few hours. Think I have had about 20 now!

The software that you updated to version 3.9.1 was the core WordPress software, not your theme. So the next step is to update your theme. Currently you are using TwentyTen version 1.3 but the current version is 1.6, that’s a lot of bug fixes, so consider updating. Take a backup first.

None of this may fix the problem but using the latest versions is a good start. There are further debug steps as above if necessary.

Thanks. I will do that and test it out.

    Ok I have updated everything.

Uninstalled and reinstalled eshop but it is still doing the same thing.

I ran a test and immediately in my inbox is 1 payment received email and 6 payment failed emails.

This is driving me crazy! Can anyone suggest another shopping cart that is simple to use for downloads only please or tell me what else I can do.

    Thanks.

Is this problem confined to PayPal, or does it apply to other payment gateways. If just PayPal, check PayPal settings in WC and in your PayPal account.

In WooCommerce / Settings / Checkout / PayPal, towards the bottom, there is an Enable logging feature which you could enable to throw some light.

If its a PayPal related issue, another cart may not help.

If you can pin it down to a PayPal issue and not eshop, PayPal support may be able to help.

Regarding the failed payment emails, are they time-stamped exactly the same, random intervals or at fixed intervals so many seconds apart.

I only use PayPal and I think you might be right and this is a PayPal problem. I am going to create a PapPal buy now button and test that to see if it works.

By the way they are randomly time stamped with some the sam and some different references. It is really bizarre!

As there has not been an update to this topic for a while, I can only assume that the issue has now been resolved and I am now marking it as such. If this is incorrect, please feel free to change the topic’s status and/or post a follow-up.

    No it isn’t resolved.
I tested whether it is PayPal by changing my buy now buttons to actual PayPal ones and it all works fine. The problem is the downloads are not automatically sent to the buyer and I have to send them manually which is a pain.
I will be looking at new shopping carts this week but would rather keep eShop as I know it. So if anyone has any ideas please??

    Thanks.

I’m sorry but we cannot replicate your problem. Downloads work fine for us via eShop, so this is specific to your site and/or install.
