• I’m hoping someone can help me solve this little problem.

I’m using the free version of ProtoPress on my blog, and I’d like to use all three levels of the dropdown menu.

However, the dropdown menu doesn’t work very well. When I try to move my cursor down through the list of items at Level 3 (the bottom level), I end up jumping ahead to the next level 2 item. If I move the cursor far to the right in the column, then I can move down to the next item. But if the cursor is toward the left, it doesn’t work.

You can see what I’m talking about if you look at the “Photos” item on the menu. Go to Asia, or Africa or Latin America and try to select from the list. You’ll see that you can’t do it unless you move the cursor far to the right.

I know that the menu system isn’t supposed to work this way. On the ProtoPress demo version, it works perfectly. But no matter what I do, I can’t get it to work on my site.

I’ve done all the steps like disabling all plugins and checking for conflicts. I’ve deleted the menu and built a new one. I’ve reinstalled WordPress. I’ve tested with all types of menu items. I’ve done everything I can think of, but it won’t work. I’ve also installed other themes from the creators of ProtoPress, and the menu system in those work fine. It’s only ProtoPress that presents a problem.

Anyone have a suggestion as to what could be wrong?

    Thanks!

    Doug

  • Hi Douglas

    I have the same problem.

The only solution I found (temporary and unsatisfactory) is to put items (items that do not have level 3) at level 2 in the menu, between the items that have level 3.

This way, Level 3 items do not disappear when you mouse over.
In your website, you can see that the level 3 “Friends & Family” works fine, and i think is because there is not level 2 items below “Friends & Family”

Maybe it’s a problem with CSS?

I hope the author can improve this problem.

    Hi, Eduardo.

Thanks for replying. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one with this problem. I suspected that it was a problem with my WordPress installation or my computer. But if you are experiencing the same thing, then perhaps it is an issue with the theme itself. I tried to find other people using this theme, but none of the people I found were using the menu system down to three levels. They all stopped at two.

Your workaround is a clever solution. I tried it out, and, unfortunately, it only gets me so far. When I insert a single item at Level 2 (with no Level 3 items), I can then move my cursor down the list one more item. But as soon as I get past that new item, I can’t go further. The selection flips back to the next Level 2 item again, just like before.

I’m sure if more people have this problem, and it becomes clear it is a problem with the CSS, then the authors of the theme will try to find a fix. I’ve asked them about it myself several times, but I haven’t received any replies as yet.

If a solution comes my way, I’ll post it here.

    Thanks again.

I ran into the same problem.

Is there a possibility to activate the third level in the menus beside the way eduardo described?

    Thanks for helping!

Just in case that somebody will raise the same question:

You just have to change in main.css in Row 217 “display: none” in “display: inherit” .
