When I attempt to download WORDPRESS.COM stats and the SEO plug-ins I have problems with Windows recognizing the php files. How do I get around this? And, I notice that there are numerous folders to select from when I open the individual file folder. Which folder do I open from there?

Are you sure you’re talking about wordpress.com, not www.remarpro.com?

How do I get around this?

You don’t. Plugins are supposed to be installed on the server running WordPress, not on your local computer.

OK, I am obvious a little confused solet me give youmore specifics. I bought domain hosting from a hosting company, that amongst others , offered WP as an avenue in which to set up a blog through. I set up my blog through the hosting company choosing WP. In light fo this situation are you saying that the domain hosting company is where the plugins should be installed for my WP blog? Or should I go through WP.com to do this?

You install plugins and themes at the same place you installed WordPress–at the space provide you by the hosting company where you purchased hosting.

    Managing_Plugins describes installing plugins.

Some plugins, such as Akismet (not sure but guessing wordpress.com stats) require an API key — see Where is my API key?

Note: changed your topic title to mixed case letters as ALL caps is considered YELLING.

Exactly, although the technically correct statement would be, “plugins should be installed on the server running WordPress”, which in your case is a server operated by your hosting company. See the Managing Plugins document in the Codex.
