Problem with config.php data!

1and1 who gave out a great deal of free accounts at the end of last year has a different login & password for MySQL. They also have a different server (not localhost).

I think mine works with a common password. However, WP is a paradox because it is asking for the opposite thing – a tad bit short of a case of “All You Base Are Belongs To Us” scenario.
First, I tried using the install.php method of continuing the installation but it gave me:
—–Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again
Fine. I redid the comments and added in the stuff it asked for AND renamed it wp-config but THEN it gave me:
—–Sorry, I need a wp-config.php file to work from. Please re-upload this file from your WordPress installation.
Bollocks. There is a wp-config there! It was just uploaded! Despite using install.php or renaming the file manually, it still doesnt recognize either one version of the wp-config file. Whats the deal?

the instructions need to be re-written for clarity – seriously. first, you have the alternative to generate the config.php file using the install config page. but then, it rejects it because it either has a wp-config file already available or doesn’t have one to work with – which is it going to be? one or the other? deleting the wp- config file screws things up even more because, now, it rejects working further at all because the values are not the same eveen though they haven’t been altered. reseting the procedure does not cure the problem and most of the new users here have the same headache. if i get through this, i plan to take a crack at rewriting the WP instructions as a suggestion for the loopholes pertaining to install.php troubles.
